What You Like about the Other Candidate: Open Thread

Almost half of partisan Democrats will, by definition, be at least slightly disappointed with the Party's ultimate choice of presidential nominee. Whichever candidate wins, there will be some healing required. I hope it's not too much: the stakes are incredibly high this election, and we must defeat John McCain. We all learned, starting only 8 years ago, the huge differences between the Democrat and the Republican, including thousands of lives lost unnecessarily.

So let's spend some time thinking about the positives in the other candidate. What do you like about the other candidate? What policy positions do you like? What personal characteristics do you find compelling?

If you currently support Senator Clinton, then try posting one or two characteristics you like about Senator Obama. If you currently support Senator Obama, post about Senator Clinton. If you're on the fence like me and proud of both candidates, then something you like about each.

There's only one special rule for this thread: everyone is entitled to hide- or troll-rate posts which are devoid of positives (or worse). This thread is an experiment in positive democracy. Every other message thread is available for both positive and negative remarks.

About Senator Clinton: I admire her determination and toughness. She is a fighter and can battle the wingnuts as effectively as anyone.

About Senator Obama: I am impressed with how he returned to community organizing and civil rights law after graduating from Harvard. He could have gone anywhere and earned buckets of money, but instead he decided to help those most in need.

This isn't easy.  I admire Senator Clinton for her tenacity.

I just can't (none / 0)

I'm trying and I can't think of something to saythat won't descend into snark.

How about I admire both of them for being Democrats.

What I love about Clinton... (none / 0)

...is the same thing that drives me crazy about her.   She IS a fighter.  It's not my way of winning votes but it can be effective and I understand why others like that.

Take 2 (2.00 / 0)

Argh. I had a posting that seemed to disappear. Let me try again.

I've only come to Camp Obama by way of Richardson and Edwards, so let me say something positive about both our fine candidates.

Clinton: I believe she really, truly cares passionately about issues like healthcare, and I believe she's developed some good policies that would improve the situation markedly. I also believe she has the insider knowledge and skills to move an agenda forward.

Obama: I like how he's approaching a generally progressive agenda from a new angle. I believe he's willing and able to work "across the aisle" and produce results that leave us in a better place than we started. I also love that he seems to be the coalescing point for a new movement. The US seems to like to shake up the apple cart every 20 years or so, and Obama may be the first one to do so in the 21st century.

Both: they're smart as hell. They'll likely win the respect of other world leaders. And they can pronounce "nuclear."

Re: What You Like about the Other Candidate (none / 0)

There's very little not to like about Hillary Clinton (other than some of her supporters here...).  She's passionate about this country and has dedicated her life to making it better.  Her only problem is that she is the second best candidate in this race.

Re: What You Like about the Other Candidate (2.00 / 1)

I'm a Clinton supporter, but I have to give Senator Obama credit for a brilliant campaign. I, too, am looking forward to having someone in the White House who is at least as smart as I am, and who can pronounce "nuclear." Either of our candidates would fit that description. Go, Democrats!

Obama Supporter (2.00 / 1)

In spite of 16 years of the most horrific and vitriolic personnel attacks from right-wing hosts, republicans, and the media, Hillary Cliton still has the wherewithal to keep going.

I don't know if I could say the same about any other politician of my time (man or woman).

Re: What You Like (none / 0)

I admire Sen. Obama for... his taste in suits.

...

.....

Oh, and also, the efficiency with which he has run his campaign is impressive. If nothing else, I'm confident that he'll surround himself with competent people if he gains the White House.

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.
