For Hillary

Hlv5a (Proudly cross-posted at Clintonistas for Obama)
My contribution: $

Sometimes, I still feel disappointed about this election. Sometimes, I keep asking myself "Where's Hillary?" Sometimes, I become frightened at the thought of Democrats losing. Sometimes, I still wish I could see Hillary back on the campaign trail again.

Sometimes, I wonder what the hell I'm doing now. But you know what? I just can't keep looking back. I can't let Hillary down now.

Lvht5

After all that I did for Hillary, how can say no to her now? That's what keeps me going. That's what continues to prod me forward. That's what keeps me pushing for Democrats.

Hillary has done so much for us. She proved to me that no one can hold us back. She taught us that yes, we can pursue our dreams. She showed us that with hard work and true grit, we can accomplish anything.

So why am I freaking out over a couple of lousy polls for Barack Obama? Why am I allowing the Rethuglican hacks to scare me into submission again? Why must I worry myself into complete depression when John McBush still can't build up a lead? While this latest rough patch has taught me not to become to complacent in "likely victory", there's also no reason for me to commit suicide over this.

After all, Hillary keeps fighting for us... Even when all the pundits & DC insiders count her out. And if she can keep working for a Democratic victory this fall, so can I. If she can continue fighting, so can I.

There's far too much at stake for us to lose. We desperately need a Democrat in the White House to right Bush's wrongs. Oh yes, and we need a Democratic Congress to help President Obama do that.

When I was in Nevada this past January campaigning for Hillary, I had the time of my life. One of my best memories from that trip was seeing Hillary in person for the first time at a campaign event in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson. I was amazed by her intelligence, her wit, her beauty, and her grace. But you know who also amazed me? I also remember seeing a state senator by the name of Dina Titus impress me with her breadth of knowledge on Nevada issues along with her warm, soulful personality. I was excited when I later found out that Dina Titus is now running for Congress, and I couldn't help but to make sure I was of help to her.

When I was starring to become depressed about the state of the Presidetial Race in May, I found a new cause to enthusiastically jump into. Like Hillary, Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook is another strong woman who doesn't stop fighting when the going gets tough. I've been able to witness her commitment to environmental justice here in Orange County, CA, and we'll all be well served to have people like Debbie serve us in Congress. I'm sure that would make Hillary smile.

So this is why I keep fighting. This is why I keep working so damn hard for Democrats. I want to see more people like Hillary take office and fight for us. If she won't ever give up on us, let's not give up on her and the causes she believes in.

Let's not give up now. Let's keep fighting. We can stay strong. If Hillary can do it, so can we. :-)

The dog days of Summer, Adleft.

With the Olympics over and the VP picks coming in, we will again have plenty of stuff to throw about.

And, the convention are pretty star studded for us, after all, they have Lieberman and Cheney to speak, we have BOTH Clintons, Mark Warner and Barack, just to name a few.

I think that is a split in our favor....

Plus, still could be Wes or even Hillary as VP, you never know....

Re: For Hillary (2.00 / 5)

I concur with the "dog days" comment.  We must remember that Obama was out of the news for a week. A week when McThird Term was in the news EVERY DAY trying to act presidential about Georgia.  Still, the polls have not swung to support him.  I gotta believe that Obama will use every dollar of the $51 Million raised in July to his advantage, and soon.  He is a fighter and organizer at the grass roots level.  That's how he won the primary.  That is how he will win the general.  My rationale for why he is not pulling away?  He is black, young, and has a "funny name."  The other guy should be running away with it (war hero, 24 years in DC, etc), yet he is just hanging on behind us.
I was very much opposed to Hillary from the get-go, but I have full confidence that Obama will pick her as his running mate if that is what he and his team deem is the best strategy for taking the WH.  I don't care about the schedule of events for the speakers at the convention.

Re: For Hillary (2.00 / 2)

Looking at those mass-produced signs made me realize that this is the first campaign I can remember in which a candidate was consistently marketed by a first name, rather than a surname.

I understand the necessity to distinguish her from her husband, but I wonder what the impact of voting for "Hillary" as opposed to "Clinton" has had on her supporters in terms of emotional investment and identification. By fostering the sense of being on a first-name basis with the candidate, maybe it's created feelings of intimacy and connection that have been all the more difficult to sever following her loss.

I wonder also, whether the first-name aspect might have also served to diminish her, making it easier to disrespect her for those so inclined.

Might be an interesting study. Anyone remember any other first name campaign signs? I seem to recall "clean for Gene" signs in 68; any others in modern history? Or am I just spacing?

I noticed that the fund-raising calls I got for Edwards were for "John", I suspect in imitation. And I think the Dean campaign used a lot of "Howard", but not as systematically.

Lamar Alexander ('96?) used "Lamar!" as a sign, but again I don't know if it was as consistent. "I like Ike"... not quite the same thing.

I love Denny Crane--the character on "Boston Legal"!

Denny--you are spot on about what Obama needs to do--that is define himself and what he stands for.

Also, the "dream ticket" is no longer a good idea since many of us HRC supporters think she needs to stay clear of Obama and do her own thing in the Senate.  Besides she will be blamed for any of his missteps or gaffs is she were his VP.

Hillariacs are just like Deaniacs. There are still some of them dreaming about Dean being Obama's VP or that he'll make his comeback in 2012.

But at least Dean turned his defeated campaign into an organization to help the party win and become more liberal in the process.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton has been privately enumerating her doubts about Obama to supporters, according to people who have spoken with her. Clinton's pollster Mark Penn recently unveiled a PowerPoint presentation red-flagging Obama's lukewarm leads among white female voters and Hispanics - while predicting a five-point swing could turn a presumed Obama win into a McCain landslide.

I also went to PA and OR for Hillary and I will be at the convention next week.

I miss Hillary ALOT and I cannot believe the democratic party threw her under the bus and supported the inexperienced unqualified younger male candidate....

Each of us has our own way of dealing with this disappointment. I hope he picks her for VP and I will ride the unity pony, but if not - I cannot and will not support him no matter what my candidate says.

by nikkid on Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 11:18:53 PM EST

Re: For Hillary (2.00 / 4)

I'm not sure at this point she'd accept a VP slot.  If her own political ambitions hold sway, she'd be smart not to.  If she really wants to take one for the team (a team that didn't do her any favors) she could gamble with her future options and say yes.

I think the opportune time for Obama and Clinton to join forces has come and gone.  Besides, Obama has to win in his own right... same as Clinton would have had to do if the situation was reversed.

I watch as it all rolls out.  Sad.  Democrats have such a gift for betting on the wrong horse.

Great post! I was a Deaniac in 2004, so I know how tough it is to keep on fighting after my candidate lost. I am empathetic and very appreciate to those Clinton supporters who have decided to keep fighting to put a Democrat in the White House even if he wasn't your first choice.

I made something special for all of the Clinton supporters who are now supporting Obama: t-shirts, buttons, and stickers that say "Hillary Has My Heart, Obama Has My Vote". You can buy them at http://www.zazzle.com/democrattotheend/c ategory/196053165511745923.
